Although I haven't started formally teaching a coding class (Elsik Ninth Grade Center received that honor this year), it hasn't stopped me from helping my students get exposed to some simple coding using a variety of tools. Today, I'd just like to give a shoutout to one of my favorites.
Scratch is a versatile tool from the brilliant minds over at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). From guides to project templates, Scratch has everything you need to introduce your classes to some coding basics (such and functions and loops), presented all in a easy-to-navigate drag n' drop interface. There's even a dedicated educator portal, complete with the ability to assign and track projects!
Best of all, it's free! All of Scratch's diverse offerings are offered without charge and easily accessible.
In short, MIT's Scratch is a fantastic way to start Scratch-ing the surface of coding in your classroom!
